How do I care for my Baby Yams baby quilt?

To ensure your blanket stays soft, cozy, and in great condition, please follow these care instructions:

Washing:

  • Machine or hand wash cold or lukewarm water (up to 85°F / 30°C).
  • Use a gentle cycle with mild detergent.
  • Wash with like colors to avoid color bleeding.
  • Do not bleach, as it may weaken the fabric and affect its color.

Drying:

  • Tumble dry on low heat or air dry.
  • For best results, remove promptly from the dryer to reduce wrinkles.
  • If air drying, lay flat or hang to dry, away from direct sunlight to preserve color and texture.

Ironing (if needed):

  • If ironing, use a low to medium heat setting while the blanket is slightly damp.
  • Avoid using high heat, as it may damage the cotton fibers.

Storage:

  • Store in a cool, dry place to maintain fabric quality.
  • Avoid storing in direct sunlight or damp areas to prevent fading or mildew.

What percentage of Baby Yams' profits go to help Black and Indigenous birth workers?

Our first blanket drop donated 100% of our profits! Now, to sustain our efforts, Baby Yams donates 10% of our net profits to organizations committed to Black and Indigenous maternal health. We donate to the non-profit organization Birth Future Foundation. They provide small grants to Black and Indigenous birth workers so they can continue their education, obtain licensing and move through the unique challenges of birth work.

Why did you choose to support Black and Indigenous birth workers?

We believe in culturally congruent care and adequate support during the perinatal process. Black birthing people are still 3-4 times more likely to die during childbirth than their white counterparts. Indigenous communities are similarly impacted. Building a strong birth workforce is a powerful way to combat these staggering statistics. Black and Indigenous birth workers often face systemic barriers in their practices, and we believe that providing grants and uplifting their work can help empower them to continue their vital efforts to support families. By supporting these individuals, we aim to contribute to a more equitable birth environment.

How does the donation process work?

10% of our net profits are automatically allocated for donation to organizations that support Black and Indigenous birth workers. We track the sales of our blanket drops and make donations on a semi -annual basis.

Is my purchase tax-deductible?
