Celebrate Sisterhood This Galentine's Day!

Happy Galentine's Day! đź’•đź’•đź’•

Yes, I know the 14th is Valentine’s Day, and it’s most commonly a celebration of romantic love, but when I look back from my early 20s on, I have often spent this day cherishing and celebrating with my girls- my women friends.

When I was younger, Galentine's was my bachelorette go-to. My girlfriends and I would get dressed, hit the town, celebrate each other and embrace the freedom of being fabulous and unattached. Truthfully, I think Galentine’s was actually a way to prevent lamentation over our romantic statuses. So, we flipped the frowns upside down, and instead celebrated each other.

Now, as a wife and mom, in a wonderfully, fulfilling romantic relationship, (I love you, hubby) I find myself cherishing Galentine’s Day even more. This year, my mom group has planned an outing that I’m so genuinely excited about. And it’s not about the activities planned- though I have some really fun ideas listed below- It’s about the fact that we are planning to come together. We are designating time out of our packed  schedules for each other. It is so important to share time with the women who walk beside us in life's journey.

Women friends need to come together. When we are connected, women are better off mentally, spiritually and physically. I can feel my nervous system calm down when I’m amongst my women friends. I can just be myself in all her funny, emotional, serious, headstrong, powerful, sometimes weaksauce and bashful sassiness. All of it! I’m talking about sacred space.

Growing up with two sisters taught me the invaluable necessity of female company. It’s a connection I simply cannot live without. So, I advise you to gather your girls at some point this month, or start that group text and do a video call if you’re all in different places, whether it's one or many, and make time for each other this Galentine's Day.

So… here’s to the strength we find in each other, the inspiration we give and receive, and the powerful Goddess love that binds us together.

Note to the Fellas- Though this blog post is not about you, your friendship bonds are equally important. I would also like to add that the event planned for my mom group would not be possible at all if it weren’t for the incredible partners holding it down at home while we paint the night pink!

Remember—together, in community, is how we win.

Here are some fun Galentine's Day activity ideas to run by your friends:

  1. Brunch Party: Host a brunch at home or at a favorite café, complete with mimosas, pancakes, and delicious pastries.
  2. Craft Night: Organize a DIY craft night where you and your friends can make friendship bracelets, candles, personalized mugs or maybe try your hand at a friendship quilt, where everyone brings a piece of fabric from home.
  3. Spa Day: Treat yourselves to a pampering day at a spa or create a DIY spa experience at home with face masks, manicures, and relaxation.
  4. Movie Marathon: Choose a theme (like rom-coms or favorite childhood movies) and have a cozy movie night with popcorn and snacks. Do they same for the kiddos, so there will be no worries when it comes to childcare.
  5. Wine or Chocolate Tasting: Host a tasting party featuring different wines or artisanal chocolates and spend the afternoon indulging.
  6. Dance Party: Create a fun playlist and have a dance party at home. Let loose and enjoy each other's company!
  7. Book Club: Pick a book that resonates and have a discussion over coffee or wine.
  8. Outdoor Adventure: Plan a hike, picnic, or a visit to a botanical garden to enjoy nature and each other's company. The stress and anxiety will drip away.
  9. Game Night: Gather for a game night filled with board games, card games, or video games—perfect for some friendly competition.
  10. Potluck Dinner: Coordinate with friends to bring dishes that represent their favorite recipes or cultures for a fun and diverse meal.
  11. Vision Board Party: Gather supplies and magazines to create vision boards that reflect personal goals and dreams for the year ahead. My sisters and I have done this one almost every year. It’s so fun to share your dreams in a safe space.
  12. Karaoke Night: Rent a karaoke machine or use a karaoke app to sing your hearts out.
